A strange man named Jesus came into the world. He changed the way Christians thought and prayed. His apostles thought he was the Messiah. While Jews were being pampered and treated with respect, Christians all over the world were being killed. At this time, the Roman Empire was collapsing. The armies had become so used of being looked after, they had collapsed as well. One empire tried to restore the empire to all its glory but his effects didn't succeed. The empire was split in two in a last bid to restore the empire. Unfortunately this didn't work. Rome was invaded by barbarians who eventually took control of Ancient Rome. The greatest empire of all had fallen. The Rise
When Ancient Greece was living it up, being the civilisation to be a part of; Rome was slowly rising. The Roman Empire gained power by conquering a lot of other places. The Roman Military activities made Rome very rich.
In 287 B.C. the people of Rome started to spread out over the area that is now known as Italy. Every Roman man was expected to fight whenever Rome went to war.
Rome conquered the Italian Peninsula and defeat the Greeks. Then stole everything and burned Corinth to the ground.
When Rome became a Republic, it lasted another 500 years. The Republics was made up of two judges/law lords that enforced the law and commanded the army. They had the same power the king had.
The Etruscans had an important role in the making of Rome. They had cities that were not far from Rome. The Romans liked the way they dressed and how the Etruscans lives, so then they became allies. The last king of the Etruscans was driven out of his throne when Rome became a Republic.
In 390 B.C the barbaric Gauls came down from the north and stole everything of value from a Roman city. They wouldn't leave until Rome paid a ransom of 1000 pounds of gold. King Pontous marched on the Romans and killed 80,000 Italian colonists in a day.
In 241 B.C Rome drove the Carthinigans from Sicily. Roman inventors came up with a boarding ship. It would connect a bridge to the other ship and troops would storm across it. An iron spike at the far end of the corus held the ships together.
Hannibal was an enemy Rome fought against. In 200 BC Hannibal was defeated. The assassination of Julius Caesar resulted in another civil war.
The Fall
During 395 AD Theodosius died. At the time Theodosius was in charge of the Roman Empire. When he died he left his two sons Honorius and Arcadius in charge of the empire. However neither of them was very interested or was good at ruling.
The Goths, an east-German tribe and the Germans quickly realised that the new leaders of Rome were weak, this meant it was a good time to attack.
During 405 AD an English general, Constantine III led all of the Roman, English and French troops to Spain. They were going to invade Spain and then go back to Rome. However while the Roman army was busy trying to take over Spain, the Alans, Vandals and Sueves came into the Roman Empire.
Constantine's General, Gerontius, decided to make himself Emperor, so he could create a stronger army.
Later Constantine and Gerontius were killed. All of the soldiers who now had no leaders were taken back to Italy. England, France and Spain were left open, for the Germans to invade.
The Visigoths had been living in the Roman Empire since a war in 378 AD and were treated poorly. They decided to attack, even though the army was back. The Visigoths managed to take over the city and wreck it, they killed lots of people.
The Roman Empire, was destroyed, they had now lost all the countries they were in charge of. Rome had fallen!
Rome fell for a mixture of different things. It was a combination of Christianity, decadence, lead, monetary trouble, and military problems caused the Fall of Rome. Some even think the rise of Islam caused the reason behind Rome’s fall. After the empire collapsed the city gradually got back together and expanded and made it even better than before.
One of the reasons Rome fell was because they began to over estimate themselves. The Roman Empire had become too big to control easily. Soldiers or families in distant parts of the Empire adopted local customs and the Empire was made up not only of natives from the Italian peninsula, but barbarians from the conquered lands. Corruption became rampant. Decay of the army, according to Vegetius, came from within the army itself, which grew weak from too long peace and stopped wearing its protective armour. This made them vulnerable to enemy weapons and to the temptation to flee from battle. Security may have led to cessation of the rigorous drills. Vegetius says the leaders became incompetent and rewards were unfairly distributed. Long ago Rome was founded by two twin brothers Romulus and Remus. 3 groups of people ruled Rome they were: Latins, Greeks and Etruscans.
Rome suffered greatly when the city faced harsh economic troubles. Money wasn’t being used efficiently and there were many poor people in need of money, the money was being wasted by the few rich people. This caused food shortages and spread of disease. Germans started invading Rome and made trading unsafe. Soldiers were no longer being loyal, they were not being disciplined anymore. Some soldiers however were loyal to their commanders who were fighting to become Emperor. Rome was starting to lose its importance and being a Roman Official was now no longer thought as 3an honour. In A.D 284 a strong leader named Diocletian helped Rome. He doubled Roman armies and hired Greek mercenaries. Diocletian took over the East but then Civil War broke out. The founders of Rome were two brothers called Romulus and Remus. They were two brothers who were brought up by a she-wolf. The Latins, the Greeks and the Etruscans lived in Rome. The Greeks established 50 colonies in Italy. The Greeks showed the Romans how to grow olives and grapes and they brought Italy and Rome closer to Greece. The Etruscans were native to Northern Italy and were metalworkers and engineers. Reason why Rome fell: ·Loss of money ·Food shortages ·Diseases ·Problems with the military ·Political troubles ·The Germans invaded Rome
The beginning of the Dark ages, a German prince named Odovacar, he killed the roman emperor Romulus Augustulus then the dark ages began, he had won control of the roman army. Most of the rulers were non-roman citizens. Odovacar had taken over Rome in September 476 A.D. Life became nasty, brutal and people died young.
While ancient Greece was strong ancient Rome was slowly building up it by conquests, it had very good military service. Rome started on seven hills at a curve of the Tiber river which was very strategic because it gave romans fertile.
The Roman Empire lasted for 426 years which is pretty long for one civilization; it was also very powerful because of its army which took over. The last great ruler was Constantine who founded the great city of Constantinople (now known as Istanbul). There are so many reasons why the Roman Empire fell, was it because there was antagonism between the senate and the emperor or was it because a decline in moral decency or maybe Political corruption between the Praetorian Guard and the people. Then again it could have been the fast expansion of Rome or the Military war or vast Military spending. It wasn’t just this but even more along with this.
Rome was founded by twin boys named Romulus and Remus. Rome was the perfect place it was between the Alps and the Mediterranean sea which provided protection for Rome. In the start Rome was controlled by 3 groups. They were called the Latins, Greeks and Etruscans. The three groups and surrounding areas worked well together. The Greeks made 50 colonies in Italy. The cities became busy and closer with trade, which bought Italy and Rome closer to contact with Italy and Greece. The Etruscans were a skilled colony. They had special skills in metalworkers and engineers. The fall of Ancient Rome started in AD 190. The roman empire started being attacked by other tribes. Civil wars in parts of the empire weakened the ruling of Rome and respect for the law became less appealing to the communities. So lets just say Rome was bad at getting leaders.
In about AD 190, the fall of Ancient Rome started. Tribes such as the Goths and the Vandals attacked the Roman Empire. Roman law were reduced. The empire was attacked by fierce tribes because tribes like the Goths wanted to move to the south into parts of Europe that would be better for their farming because the weather was better. This then started a fight with the Romans. The Roman Army was separated over Western Europe and each section of the army had their own idea to who should be the emperor. When one section of the army got its man as emperor, another section of the army would fight with them, so that their man could be emperor. Between AD 211 and AD 284, there were twenty three soldier emperors. Twenty of those men were killed by rivals. In AD 281, the emperor Diocletian said that something had to be done or Rome and its empire would fall apart. He then decided to divide the Roman Empire into two so it would be easier to rule. He called them the Western Empire and the Eastern Empire. They each had their own leader. This wordle was created @ http://www.wordle.net/create (on the 15-11-2010)

In 100 BC the Roman Empire ruled all of the Carthaginian settlements in Africa. Plus half of turkey, all of Greece, some of Croatia, Albania and Serbia. The Romans also ruled half of Spain all of Sicily all of Italy and a small amount of territories in Gaul. Most of these territories were earned during the Punic wars against Carthage in the end Carthage was annihilated and completely lost the Punic wars to Rome and Carthage lost all of its territories. And its capital Carthage was burned to the ground and then salt was put on the land so nothing could ever grow there again. The Punic wars were fought between the two superpowers of the Mediterranean Carthage and Rome. They fought for supremacy in the Mediterranean and they also fought for all of the trade in the Mediterranean and the great shipping ports in the Mediterranean. Rome was an average city in need of proper laws constantly changing their laws to suit people which made their government unstable. It went from kings to emperors to consuls to senators. Eventually A man named Julius Cesar stepped forward and ruled Rome for quite a while and it became a peaceful place for a while. Once Julius Caesar went to a fortune teller and he was told to beware the 15 of march but he didn't listen and that was the day he died killed by his so called best friend.
